Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced Engineering Technologist for the post of Specialist Mechanical Development Engineering Technologist within the Clinical Engineering Section of the Medical Physics Department. Candidates should ideally possess a BEng or BSc or equivalent in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering, but consideration will be given to candidates who possess a HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering and have previous post qualification experience of working within an a relevant engineering environment or candidates who have previous experience working within a Clinical Engineering section. The post holder will be required to achieve the necessary standards to join the Register for Clinical Technologists (RCT).


Clinical Engineering provides a service throughout NHS Tayside and external customers serving the population of Dundee, Angus, Perth & Kinross and North East Fife.

Our Clinical Engineering comprises of five disciplines Electronics, Renal, Mechanical, Anaesthetics and Design and Development, which comprises of four workshops in Ninewells Hospital and one in Perth Royal Infirmary. Each workshop provides a service, which comprises of repair, service and calibration of patient critical equipment. Plus working with the multidisciplinary team to ensure equipment is fit for purpose and safe to use. Plus provide technical support to the nursing and medical staff within NHS Tayside. Full onsite and offsite training will be provided on equipment utilised within the scope of the Clinical Engineering teams. 



Mechanical Design Section Technical Team comprises of a Technical Lead Band 7 (Team Lead) and a Band 6 Specialist Design Technologist (This Post). Providing support to our multi-disciplinary team, engineer and manufacturing bespoke items for Clinicians and other members of the team to enable complex patient procedures to be carried out. Also maintain patient equipment in the Acute Sector as well as in the Primary Care Sector and the community. Flexibility in working hours will be expected and a member of the voluntary on call service is desirable.


If a candidate does not fully meet the post requirements may still be considered for the appointment using the Annex 21 system for a period of up to four years, dependent upon successful completion of the in-house training package.



You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.
