The Team

The team is an integrated Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse team within the eHealth Department that serves the entire organisation with solutions related to reporting and analytical applications. Our core areas are performance reporting and dashboards and statutory reporting to the Scottish Government. The team is also involved in the response to the Covid-19 pandemic with development work that involves Covid testing, vaccinations and contact tracing.

Our data warehouse is based on Microsoft SQL Server 2019 with tools from Insource. For the Business Intelligence delivery, we are using Analysis Services, Reporting Services. We are also using PowerBI and QlikView extensively.

Your Role

As a Data Warehouse Developer, you are laying the groundwork for the entire organisation to use data for decision making, reporting and analysis. Data is extracted from operational source systems and you will be supporting the development of reports and dashboards and adapting the data warehouse to the ever changing needs of the organisation. You will build up an extensive knowledge of the existing data warehouse, as well as the main operational source systems and the health business processes.

From the start, we expect that you will be designing, developing and operating the data solutions that support the continued response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the vaccination transformation programme. This programme expands on the Extract data warehouse solutions developed for the Covid-19 Vaccination Programme into other areas and moves the ownership of vaccinations delivery from GP practices to the Health Board. You will be a key person in providing the data needed for the development of dashboards, reports and analytical support.

About You

You are able to understand and discuss complex information requirements of business intelligence solutions such as reports and dashboards with developers and non-technical stake holders as well as system specialists and third party vendors for source systems.

You are also able to convert requirements into an efficient and resilient extraction/load/transform solution that fits with the overall data warehouse reference architecture. It is essential that you are able to cover the entire spectrum from requirements to development. requirements to development.

As a developer, you possess demonstrable experiences and skills with a majority of the tools that we are using. You are able to work with T-SQL and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). You are proficient with data warehouse methodologies and concepts as well as relational and multi-dimensional data modelling.

You enjoy solving data problems and appreciate the advantages having a data warehouse strategy that provides the foundation for unified use of data across a variety of reporting and dashboard solutions.
