Post: CLINICAL research FELLOW IN PLEURAL DISEASE

Applications are invited for the above post in Respiratory Medicine, based in the Pleural Diseases Unit at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH). This post is available now and could commence immediately or be deferred for a February 2023 or August 2023 start date, depending on the successful candidate.
The Glasgow Pleural Diseases Unit provides specialist pleural services including Thoracoscopy. Insertion and management of Indwelling Pleural Catheters and accepts referrals from across the West of Scotland (WoS). The unit delivers a weekly specialist Pleural Disease clinic and functions as the hub of the Macmillan Scottish Mesothelioma Network and national MDT. The unit is supported by three Pleural Consultants, Pleural and Mesothelioma Clinical Nurse Specialists and a team of clinical research fellows. The unit has an active clinical research program with a particular interest in Mesothelioma, and plays an active role in delivering UK-wide clinical trials of pleural diagnostics and treatment.
Candidates should be in possession of MRCP (UK) or equivalent, and have appropriate experience in General and Respiratory Medicine. This should include competence in basic pleural procedures and thoracic ultrasound assessment. Applicants should be planning to continue in a career in Respiratory Medicine or a related specialty.
In addition to clinical duties within the Pleural Diseases Unit at QEUH, the post-holder will be involved in providing specialist respiratory input to inpatients in the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. They will have the opportunity to train in Pleural Disease and advanced pleural procedures, including Thoracoscopy.
The post-holder will be given the opportunity to undertake a period of supervised clinical research, leading to the award of an MD or other higher degree. Funding is available for 2 years, however shorter-term appointments may be considered.
The post holder will be required to participate in the general medical on call rota.
