Technical Manager - Quality Manager at GRI Microbiology is responsible under the direction of the Quality, Health & Safety and Training Compliance Manager (QHSTCM) to ensure that the Quality Management System (QMS) is implemented and maintained. The position reports to the QHSTCM on the functioning and effectiveness of the QMS and supervises the programme of scheduled and unscheduled audits, and also to perform or supervise internal audits and ensure that corrective actions are effected, preventive actions are discharged and to monitor the effectiveness of any actions taken.

The Diagnostic Clinical Microbiology/Virology Service for Glasgow and Clyde is delivered from two sites: Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The laboratories provide a full and comprehensive Microbiology / Virology service to the population of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde including Hospital based users, General Practice users, Private Sector users and to colleagues in the University and teaching sectors.

Applicants must be registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist and require a Masters degree (MSc) in Biomedical Science or hold the Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science (F.I.B.M.S.) or possess an equivalent educational qualification.

The post is based at the Microbiology Laboratory at Glasgow Royal Infirmary which is a state of the art facility which contains extensive microbiology equipment such as Vitek 2, Vitek MS, Bact Alert, WASP/WASPLab and MGiT TB Analysers. The laboratory processes around 400,000 specimens per annum and in addition to routine microbiology sections, also includes Environmental (air and water) testing and a Mycology section. The laboratory holds UKAS accreditation for ISO 15189 and ISO 17025 standards.
