A vacancy has arisen for a Specialist Clinical Scientist within the East of Scotland Regional Genetic Laboratory Service, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. This is an excellent opportunity for career advancement as a Clinical Scientist. Applicants must be registered as a Clinical Scientist with HCPC and have extensive post-registration experience gained working in an NHS diagnostic genetic laboratory. Professional qualifications such as Diplomate of the Royal College of Pathologists or equivalent experience to doctorate level are also required.

The successful applicant will be managing and providing specialist scientific and technical oversight to a team of Clinical Scientists and Healthcare Science Practitioners that delivers the diagnostic service for inherited disorders. In this role, a detailed specialist knowledge of genomic sequencing technologies would be desirable. The individual must be able to lead by example and possess excellent people management skills.

The laboratory provides a modern, high-quality genomic testing service for NHS Tayside and the rest of Scotland through the Scottish Genomic Strategic Network. Co-located with other laboratory disciplines within Ninewells Hospital, the laboratory provides a testing service for inherited conditions, acquired disease (solid and haematological malignancies) and pharmacogenomics. In addition, the laboratory is the designated national centre for non-invasive prenatal testing. The Dundee laboratory offers high standards in terms of facilities and expertise to support all staff.

Hours of work – 37.5 per week.
