Looking for a new and exciting challenge? Then think about working in NHS Forth Valley in the heart of Scotland.
NHS Forth Valley seeks to appoint a Consultant in Ophthalmology. A full-time post is available as a combined job plan with The Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Glasgow. The majority of the job plan will be with Forth Valley, and a proportion contributing to the specialist cataract service at the Golden Jubilee.
This post has arisen due to changes in the job plans of existing consultants, and an increase in the workload of the department. The successful applicant will join the area consultant ophthalmology team and will share responsibility for providing a comprehensive clinical service in Forth Valley. Participation in the out of hours on call rota is essential (1:7). The Golden Jubilee National Hospital role will involve both cataract assessment clinics and Cataract surgery on the Golden Jubilee site in Glasgow, as well as a proportional allocation of administration and SPA time. The Golden Jubilee currently carries out 18% of all Scottish cataracts and will have a new build integrated ophthalmology unit in 2020 which will meet the future demand for cataracts in the west of Scotland.
Applicants will be expected to have broad ophthalmology training; those with sub-specialty interest in glaucoma would be preferred. Additionally some experience with medical retina would be an advantage. The applicant must also be a competent cataract surgeon.
You can look forward to a warm welcome and strong support from colleagues. Our hospital is situated in the heart of Scotland, nestled against the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, and close to vibrant towns that are richly endowed with excellent cultural and sporting facilities, offering good transport links to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Applicants should have full GMC registration and a licence to practise. Applicants will be in possession of the FRCOphth or equivalent, registered with the General Medical Council and on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of a CCT at the time of interview or have a certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR). Applicants are required to have evidence of recent continued academic and professional development. Excellent, communication, listening and organisational skills are essential.
