NHS Lothian is delighted to be able to offer an exciting opportunity to apply for a postgraduate diploma course in order to train to become an Anaesthesia Associate.

This will be studied over 24 months with an additional three months’ probationary period in clinical practice to qualify. 

Once the course has been successfully completed candidates will be offered a permanent role within NHS Lothian and will be expected to remain in post for at least 3 years after training. 

Access to this fully funded training is available for:


•    Registered healthcare professionals, e.g., nurses or operating department practitioners

or
•    Biological/Biomedical science graduates

You will initially be based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and supported by the Medical Education Team to gain clinical experience from day one through rotations across each of the 3 Lothian acute hospital sites which also include St John’s in Livingston and the Western General covering a breadth of surgical specialties.

During your training you will work through a variety of competency modules, signed off by educational supervisors and sit two national exams. The training is provided in partnership with the University of Birmingham with the academic component largely delivered via distance learning. Some travel will be required to attend specific practical assessment and examinations. 

This post is offered under Annex 21 pay arrangements.  Successful candidates will be paid 70% of Band 7 starting salary in year one and 75% of Band 7 starting salary in year two. 

Fully qualified Anaesthesia Associates are also welcomed to apply and will join NHS Lothian on Agenda for Change Band 7 level.
