The Waste Officer will be based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), but the role will cover all sites across NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. You will assist with the management and development of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde’s waste management policy, strategy and infrastructure whilst ensuring compliance with statutory standards. You will be responsible for assisting in the management of all waste streams generated by NHS GG&C, providing support and guidance to both clinical and non-clinical departments.  
 
You will support the operational waste manager with implementing and monitoring board wide procurement of all waste contracts, ensuring that the costs to NHS GG&C is minimised, whilst monitoring the performance of contractors and waste services across NHS GG&C through audits and data analysis. You will assist in developing and implementing board wide waste policies, circular economy strategies and waste minimisation programmes.   
You will be expected to plan audits, develop processes and training materials as per compliance requirements and assist in the development of the sustainability communications strategy for all related issues and topics.  
 
It is essential you have a relevant environmental management or science degree with membership of a relevant organisation, such as IEMA or CIWEM. A Masters degree will also be beneficial, but not essential, as relevant work place experience with a similar sized organisation, contractor or consultancy will be essential with ideally 2 to 5 years’ experience. Contractor management experience is beneficial, with significant budget and commercial awareness.  
 
The hours of this post are worked Monday to Friday as part of a 37.5 hour week
