Base Location - St Margaret of Scotland Hospice, Clydebank, Scotland & Rotational Sessions NHS Greater Glasgow Clyde’s Vale of Leven & Queen Elizabeth University Hospitals

This is a tremendous opportunity to join an imaginative and committed multidisciplinary specialist palliative care team.  The Consultants in Palliative Medicine will be based at the St Margaret of Scotland Hospice (7 sessions) and each post will have rotational clinical commitment blocks agreed between the following NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Acute Services Sectors at the Vale of Leven Hospital, West Dunbartonshire – 3 sessions  and at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, South Glasgow  – 3 sessions. 

In the Hospice, Consultants in Palliative Medicine, Specialty Doctors, Nurse Consultant, Clinical Nurse Specialists, specialist practitioners from Allied Health Professionals and Specialist Pharmacists combine to provide a comprehensive active rehabilitative palliative care service which will support the development of these new rotational posts.

There is also an existing active programme of undergraduate and postgraduate education in palliative care with the undergraduate education coordinated for the medical students through the University of Glasgow.

The Consultants in Palliative Medicine will be employed by St Margaret of Scotland Hospice and, subject to NHS approval, hold an Honorary Contract with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde .

Applicants must have full General Medical Council (GMC) registration and a licence to practice and be on the GMC Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on to the GMC register from date of Interview.  Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Successful candidates will be employed under the NHS Scotland's  Pay and Conditions of Service for Consultant Grades including access to the NHS Superannuation Scheme (Pension). St Margaret of Scotland Hospice is a Direction Body which allows candidates fulfilling certain criteria to continue membership of the  NHS Superannuation Scheme. This relates to both their service and superannuation contributions.
