Specialist Physiotherapist
37.5 hours / Permanent
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic physiotherapist to join our Medical Specialities Physiotherapy Team at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. This is the main acute / emergency admitting hospital for Edinburgh and the Lothians. The post is primarily based in our Acute Medical Wards, and when cross-cover is required experience will be gained supporting the physiotherapy team in the front door admissions / assessment ward.
The Acute Medicine speciality is a busy and varied clinical area, with a very wide range of varied and interesting medical, neurological, respiratory, musculoskeletal and complex presentations. To provide the best interventions to individuals in these wards requires physiotherapists who display excellence in clinical reasoning, communication, and multidisciplinary team working. The successful candidate for this post will gain extensive and in-depth experience as a band 6 physiotherapist, with daily opportunities to positively influence and lead the progression towards ability of their patient group.
Our Acute Medical team includes band 4 to 7 staff, and is a friendly and supportive team who take a collaborative approach to their clinical team’s responsibilities and challenges. You will have supervisory responsibility for band 5 staff members, and be supported and appraised by the team lead. We run a multi-strand in-service and CPD programme in our department, with all staff participating in this learning as relevant to skills and experience. Staff will have opportunities to take on additional broader departmental professional roles when these arise. Service development through small to large audit and project work is present throughout the site’s physiotherapy teams.
Candidates must display evidence of clinical experience of work in a variety of acute areas, from: Respiratory, ITU / HDU, Orthopaedics, Stroke, Medicine of the Elderly, and with a particular interest in Acute Medicine. Ability to effectively and efficiently prioritise, manage, and lead discharge planning is essential. Clarity of communication and well-developed organisational skills are expected. Experience of supervision, mentorship and appraisal of other staff members / students is ideal.
There is a regular weekend and overnight on-call commitment, with this area of working being fully supported through a robust orientation programme.
