Responsible for leading the programme of primary care transformation across all independent contractor services, working with our key stakeholders to deliver the necessary transformation of our primary care services and workforce.  


This is a substantial change programme in terms of both scale and complexity across the six

HSCPs, 231 GP practices and a wide range of community services and professional groups. 

Oversee Primary Care Contracts - General Medical and Ophthalmic as well as the provision of GP Out of Hours services in Greater Glasgow & Clyde ensuring that these are delivered to the required quality and standards and in turn support the primary care transformation programme.  

Accountable to multiple stakeholders including NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, the six Integrated Joint Boards and professional advisory committees.  This will require you to develop a shared strategic direction and priorities and collective accountability, supported by the governance arrangements of multi partner oversight groups.

The extended Multi-Disciplinary Team is now an established part of core general practice provision, with particular progress and investment on those areas with an associated commitment to change in responsibility for service delivery 1) Pharmacotherapy 2) Vaccination and 3) Community Treatment and Care (CTAC). The post holder will be a key member of the MDT.

There are key strategic connections including Moving Forward Together, winter planning,

unscheduled care, vaccination programme, Mental Health strategy and development of PC

strategy. The post holder will have a major influential role in providing strategic direction, governance and assurance for NHS Greater Glasgow  & Clyde.  

The post-holder will be expected to attend the Corporate Management Team (CMT) as and when required and attend NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Board meetings to provide advice on issues related to the delivery of primary care services when required. Qualities and experience required for this post include an ability to influence other Directors and evidence of strategic thinking applied to organisational achievement.  Demonstrable strategic and operational experience at Corporate Management team level in a complex healthcare system. Detailed understanding of health and social care best practice and policy and have national credibility in your field with excellent oral and written communication skills.​​​​​​​
