Site Director - St John’s Hospital and Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion

Executive Manager Grade E
£85,966 - £112,401

NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh city, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards.  We have strategic partnerships with local Universities, Local Authorities and our four Integration Joint Boards.  We serve a population of 900,000, providing a range of primary, community based and acute hospital services.  We also provide regional and national services across a range of clinical specialties.

St John’s is a modern teaching hospital that provides a comprehensive and expanding range of services for the people of Lothian and beyond.  The hospital, based at Howden in Livingston, has a 24-hour Accident and Emergency department and provides a range of specialist services as the regional centre for Head & Neck, and Burns.  There is a full paediatric service at the hospital, including an acute receiving unit, a special baby unit, paediatric ward and a comprehensive range of outpatient services. The Site Director is also responsible for the Princess Alexandra Eye Hospital (PAEP) based in central Edinburgh, which is a specialist eye centre for Edinburgh and the Lothians, and provides tertiary care for South East Scotland.

We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic individual to lead, manage and drive forward acute adult services on the St John’s site and The Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion (PAEP), based within Edinburgh city centre.

You will be responsible for the safe delivery of patient centred, safe and effective services in accordance with NHS Lothian’s corporate objectives and within the context of Scottish Government policy and priorities.  As a member of the Acute Senior Management Team, the Site Director will contribute to and participate in the setting of the strategic direction for health services in NHS Lothian working closely with the other Acute Directors, HSCP and Corporate Directors to ensure effective whole system working.

This exciting and challenging post requires significant operational management experience in a senior leadership role within the NHS or similar complex organization.  You will have a proven track record of achievement in managing complex service change and improvement programmes.  As the lead officer on the site, you will be expected to lead and oversee complex QI and service transformation programmes through proactive visioning, collaborative working and collective leadership, engaging with partners and stakeholders. You must be able to balance demand management and capacity planning, whilst managing competing and conflicting priorities in terms of resources and timescales for delivery.
