Post:  consultant Haematologist with an interest in adoptive immunotherapy and Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation

Base: SOUTH Glasgow University Hospitals Campus, GLASGOW

Applications are invited for a new Consultant Haematologist post for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GG&C), to be based in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.

We are looking for a motivated individual to join the team of 29 Haematology consultants in Greater Glasgow & Clyde. This post will be one of seven consultant posts which support the Adult Adoptive Immunotherapy and Allogeneic Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Service. It is a new post created as a result of increased part-time working commitments and internal consultant job plan reviews. The service currently provides all Allogeneic Stem cell transplants and CAR-T therapy for Scotland. Although the Scottish CAR-T cell service is likely to adopt a multicentre model, following an ongoing options appraisal, Glasgow will remain a major centre reflecting the burgeoning demand for cellular therapies. In addition, the unit performs autologous transplants for the West of Scotland.

The Unit has a large trials portfolio for allograft and CAR-T patients and runs an immunotherapy trials programme in conjunction with the Clinical Oncology team at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (WOSCC). Currently, around 20 patients receive licensed CAR-T products per year for lymphoma with a number of others treated as part of clinical trials. It is anticipated that there will be a significant increase in the numbers of CAR-T patients as further indications are approved. It is planned to deliver Myeloma CAR-T from Q 2/3 2023.

The West of Scotland Adult Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Service (HSCTS) is one of the largest in the UK and is an IMPACT trial Centre. The team carries out 75-85 allogeneic transplants and 90-100 autografts per year. The on-call within the department will be 1 in 6 with this post.

You should be appropriately experienced and qualified in the specialty, fully registered with the GMC and have a licence to practice. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview.  Non UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
