A vacancy has arisen within the Estates Department of NHS Lothian at St John’s Hospital, Livingston, for a Gardener. The successful applicant will be required to carry out grounds maintenance works within the organisation this broken down in two different roles.
All year round the department duties include: grass cutting , hedge and shrub pruning, weeding and weed killing, litter picking /road sweeping, planting shrubs and bedding out plants, making safe trees, clearing leaves, to keep grounds safe
During the winter months an on-call service is provided to ensure that ice /frost and snow are cleared from designated properties 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This keeps the hospital roads and footpaths safe and open for patients and staff to use. To provide the organisation with efficient quality assured service.
Applicants must be trained to SVQ level 3, or relative experience, experience working on a large spread out estate Knowledge of safety aspects of grounds maintenance equipment
Ability to work as part of a small team, experience working an on call system, ability to work unsupervised and use own initiative, to be flexible and willing to react to the needs of the management team and general public.
Full, current driving licence with trailer classification
