Senior Staff Nurse: Band 6

Neonatal Unit Royal Alexandra Hospital


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse/ midwife to join our Neonatal Services within GGC.  The unit is a level 2unit with 16 COTS, 2 ITU, 4 high dependency and 10 special care cots providing care to high risk infants. The base for this post will be at the RAH but there will be rotation to the level 3 units at Princess Royal Maternity and Royal Hospital for Children as required for the  maintenance of competencies and skills.

The Senior Staff Nurse is an expert clinical practitioner within their designated area. They will be responsible for delivering direct patient care while managing, leading, co-ordinating and overseeing nursing practice on a shift in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse.

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Delivery of a quality assured systematic approach to patient care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and clinical competence, encouraging others to maintain a high standard of patient care.
  • Delegate staff with due regard to the individuals’ capabilities, utilizing available skill mix appropriately.
  • Is able to self-assess own and others’ performance, recognising abilities and limitations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the individual child and family needs when participating in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
  • Recognize the need for parental involvement in patient care.
  • Respect and maintain the confidentiality of children their families and colleagues.
  • Participate in research and audit projects to ensure practice is evidence based.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of legal and professional responsibilities within nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of effective use of resources, including staff, supplies and departmental budget.
  • Be supportive and approachable to all staff members, and participates in collaborative care delivery.
