Job Advert

Public Health Scotland

Governance officer

About the Organisation:

Public Health Scotland, as a young organisation, has been set up to improve the lives of people in Scotland and to reduce health inequalities that persist in many of our communities. It’s an exciting time to join the organisation and an opportunity to contribute to shaping and developing the work of the Governance Team.

The post:

As Governance Officer you will ensure a professional, quality and accurate secretariat service to the Board and all its committees. The successful applicant will be at the heart of Public Health Scotland’s decision-making process, working with the Board members and a range of colleagues from across the organisation. You will lead on a number of designated committees, ensuring the provision and quality of the service, including preparation of accurate and timely minutes to the standard agreed with the Chair and Executive Officers and the full coordination of follow up actions and subsequent sequencing of agenda items.

The candidate:

Ideally you will have considerable experience in providing board level administrative and governance support, gained through a combination of experience in a similar role and education or training. This experience should be reflected in your good working knowledge of information governance, public sector audit and equality and diversity, particularly as they apply to board governance.

As the role requires you to develop strong working relationships with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders, you will be confident in communicating effectively both in writing and in person and have the ability to interpret and convey complex information in an appropriate way for the audience. Essentially you will have excellent writing skills, with the ability to be clear, accurate, relevant and concise.

With highly developed IT skills, and a proven ability to manage and develop complex relevant information systems and processes, such as Admin Control or Microsoft Sharepoint, you will be able to present complex information confidently and professionally in a variety of ways (written and verbal) to staff and Board groups.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Governance team at Public Health Scotland as we develop our corporate governance function and establish our processes and systems. You will be part of a friendly, professional team, working together to ensure the delivery of an excellent Governance service.
