Looking for a new challenge? This role in NHS Ayrshire & Arran offers an ambitious and committed consultant physician the opportunity to work in an innovative Infectious Diseases Unit within a University Teaching Hospital, while also contributing to the expanding general medicine service.
This post will see the successful candidate joint our existing team to deliver and develop new and innovative approaches in the delivery of in-patient and out-patient treatment care that meet an increasing demand for specialist Infectious Disease services. You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team that will comprise of 2 Consultants, 3 Blood-borne Virus (BBV) nurse specialists and a BBV Pharmacist.
The successful candidate will have three main components to their job plan within Infectious Diseases: specialty ward duties, inpatient and outpatient specialty referrals and running the OPAT service. Candidates with CCT in general internal medicine will be expected to contribute to the general medical receiving rota as well. Candidates with CCT in microbiology or virology will have scope to develop the role in terms of liaison with the laboratory, with infection control and with public health.
Applicants will be in possession of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent, registered with the General Medical Council specialist register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of a certificate of completion of training (CCT) or certificate of eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) in Infectious diseases at the time of interview. Applicants are required to have evidence of recent continued academic and professional development.
Excellent, communication, listening and organisational skills are essential.
The terms and conditions of service are those determined by the New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004. The posts are offered on a 10 programmed activity basis initially (including 2 SPAs), but opportunities may exist for Extra Programmed Activities to be undertaken subject to service requirements and in accordance with national terms and conditions of service. Applications from individuals who may wish to work on a part-time or job share basis will be considered.
