Job Title: Modern Apprenticeship – Clerical (Admin) Officer
Grade: Band 2
Location: Western General Hospital, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh & Woodburn House
Contract Duration: Permanent
Hours: Full Time

We are recruiting to these posts based on your potential to contribute to our high quality patient care as well as demonstration of personal values aligned to those of our organisation: NHS Lothian Values.
Some of your daily duties will involve
- Maintain an effective records system by the accurate retrieval, filing and storage of all notes using terminal digit and straight numerical filing systems.
- Ensure case notes are made available for all patients attending clinics, tracking and locating any missing notes
- Provide reception service for all patients/visitors including greeting and directing patients
- Record patient details to out- patient waiting lists as appropriate
- Produce patient letters from database and send to patient with appropriate accompanying documentation.
- Handle telephone enquiries; liaise with ambulance staff, patients, relatives, and members of the public and government agencies.
You will be supported in your role, and you will have the opportunity to learn and gain the following:
- Gain Business Administration SVQ Level 2 and embed the learning into practice.
- Obtain underpinning knowledge units: Digital Courses
- Develop and enhance Administrative/IT Skills within a busy healthcare environment
- Develop planning and organisational skills.
- Understanding Health and Safety and ensuring that all work is carried out within required guidelines.
- Maintaining skill and knowledge level in competencies and core skills.
- Key employability skills
On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to progress your career.
To be considered for the Modern Apprenticeship programme candidates must be between 16-24yrs of age (or to the age of 29 if you have a disability or care experienced) and hold a National 4 or above in English and Mathematics or core skills at level 4 which were achieved within another qualification. You must be eligibility to work within the UK, including UK citizen, EU settled or those who have right to remain. Due to the nature of the apprenticeship we can not support visa applications for these position. In addition to this we are also interested in your values, attitude and ability to learn and how this will enable you to become a valued member of our team. The answers to our Assessment Questions are therefore extremely important and should reflect how you feel you match our desire for enthusiastic and dynamic people who demonstrate a can-do attitude.
