This is a full-time permanent post. The shift pattern for this post is Monday - Sunday variable hours between 8.00am - 8.00pm.

Medical Laboratory Assistants carry out technical, administrative and clerical tasks within the laboratory reception area. Effective operation of the sample reception area is essential to the operation of the Department.

You will:

  • processes samples through specimen reception, prepare samples for analysis, register patient related information onto Laboratory Information System or other manual systems, ensuring accuracy of sample identification and documentation, and ensure safe disposal of clinical waste.
  • will deal with telephone queries from staff from other departments and external agencies and provide assistance to the Biomedical Scientist for provision of a laboratory service.
  • have 3 Highers at Grade C or above, which should include either Chemistry or Biology together with Maths, or SVQ3, or completion of a modern apprenticeship in Life Sciences or completion of equivalent accredited education/learning.
