Job Advert

Fulltime/part-time/secondment – (minimum 6 months secondment).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a staff nurse to join the Eden Unit’s busy Nursing Team.   We are seeking a motivated individual to support the current nursing and wider team in all aspects of the running of this highly specialised unit.  Each day can be completely different ranging from taking patients out for coffee and snack challenges, participating in the weekly staff supervision, supporting psychological therapies, providing person centred care and challenging eating disorder cognitions.

Experience of patients with eating disorders would be an advantage, but not essential.  Full induction shall be given with the opportunity to take on further training.  The successful candidate will be expected to work rotational shifts across both day and night duty.  We would welcome applications from RMN's and RN’s to join our team.

The Eden Unit is the Regional Inpatient Eating Disorder Service for the North East of Scotland which covers Tayside, Grampian, Highland and Islands as well as patients out of area.  The Unit also incorporates a transitional placement in Day Programme aiming to prevent admissions to hospital or to aid earlier discharge.  The Eden Unit has close links with NHS Grampian, Highland and Tayside Outpatient Eating Disorders Service, Gastroenterology Team at ARI, CAMHS and Inpatient Service Dudhope in Dundee.

Although our patient’s primarily have a diagnosis of an eating disorder they can also suffer from co-morbidities such as anxiety, depression, OCD and diabetes.  These conditions allows staff the opportunity to become upskilled in insulin management/carbohydrate counting, venepuncture, catheter care and nasal gastric tubing.

One of the fundamental treatments within Eden is providing evidence based therapies.  Within the ward we are able to offer: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Family Based Therapy, Interpersonal Psychological Therapy, Contemplation work, Art Therapy, Decider Skills, Mentalisation Based Therapy distress tolerance therapies and cognitive remedial therapy.  As a result of this we offer formal accredited training allowing staff to offer this therapy. There will also be the opportunity to undertake the EEATS Accredited course.

During the patients admission all patients are given the opportunity to participate in formulation.  This gives the patients and the wider MDT the opportunity to revisit and revaluate the patient’s journey and their past while developing a plan on moving forward.
