Senior Wheelchair Technician

Location: NHS Grampian Wheelchair Service, Woodend Hospital, Aberdeen 

Hours: 37.5 hours per week  


NHS Grampian Wheelchair Service is based in Aberdeen and supports the wheelchair and special seating needs of around 8000 adult and paediatric service users in Aberdeenshire, Moray, Orkney and Shetland. The service has recently seen significant change due to retirement of key personnel and requires recruitment into several roles to ensure the future of a specialist team and the service it provides.  


An excellent opportunity has arisen to your our team of clerical, technical and clinical staff in a senior technical role. You will need to be an experienced engineer/technician from a mechanical/electrical background with excellent practical skills to fault find and analyse problems with powered and manual wheelchair systems. Design and manufacturing of bespoke components to meet specific needs of complex wheelchair users is a requirement of the role. In the absence of the workshop supervisor you will also be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the workshop and delivery runs.

Experience of wheelchairs/medical devices would be an advantage. Training will be provided, but you are expected to readily demonstrate competence and work on your own initiative.

The job is based in the technical workshop but requires frequent visits driving service vehicles to homes, care establishments, school and hospitals to support repairs and deliveries of equipment. Strong communication, organisational and practical skills are essential to the role as well and being an excellent team player.
