An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Public Health Department for a Health Protection Nurse Specialist.

The principal role is to act as investigating officer for COVID variants and mutations as part of the Scottish respiratory surveillance system. The postholder will support the public health management of cases of COVID variants and mutations including participating in directed epidemiological investigation in line with PHS guidance. The postholder will provide Health Protection Nurse advice on other health protection issues including communicable diseases, infection prevention control, and environmental health hazards and will assist with the implementation of the public health response in relation to health protection incidents. They will be integral to the efforts of the Health Protection Team whose role is to ensure the health of the population in Highland is protected and promoted. ​​​​​​​

NHS Highland serves a total population of around 325,000. You will be based in Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, renowned for its beauty and quality of life which offers a lifestyle only dreamt of in other parts of the country.

You will work in a small, friendly Health Protection Team which sits within the wider multi-disciplinary Public Health Directorate.

Duties include: assisting in the investigation and management of confirmed, probable and possible cases of COVID variants and mutations both within NHS Highland and as part of the overall Scottish response working with other boards where required. Support for the investigation and management of other communicable diseases will also be undertaken.

Applicants should be on the Nursing and Midwifery Council's register and should have a minimum of three years post-registration clinical experience, some of which should ideally be in a community setting.

The other post is a Health Protection Nurse Specialist with a focus on Care Homes. As such, please read both JDs carefully and indicate in your application whether you are interested in both posts or one post specifically.
