An opportunity has arisen for a permanent Consultant Psychologist Band 8C (8 sessions) to lead an expanding team delivering a local Veterans 1st Point (V1P) Service which is managed within the Adult Psychological Speciality as part of the wider NHS Ayrshire & Arran Psychological Service.  The Psychological Service comprises of approximately 100 staff including Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists in CBT, Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology, Counsellors, Graduate Assistant Psychologists and Master and Doctoral Psychology Trainees. The Psychological Service delivers area-wide psychological provision through the Professional Lead for Psychological Services, three Heads of Specialty and Consultant Psychology Leads across the range of MHS and Acute Psychological Specialties.

The holistic V1P model provides a range of social and mental health support to veterans presenting with a range of complex needs.  The V1P Service will be delivered from a community based “One-stop Shop” model of care.  This V1P service will develop in line with the recommendations of the Scottish Government’s Action Plan for dedicated service provision for veterans and their families.  The post holder will have responsibility for supervising and managing the other members of the team (1.0 wte Band 8A Psychologist, 1.5 wte Band 4 Veteran Peer Support Workers and 1.0 wte Band 4 Administrator).  You will have a lead clinical role in developing the psychological assessment and therapy provision of this model.  You will have access to the national V1P Lead and Veteran network for advice and support in developing the service.

Psychological Services places a strong emphasis on governance and CPD and has excellent opportunities for training and access to special interest and professional groups.  Supervision for this post will be provided by an experienced Clinical/Counselling Psychologist. The Service has close links with the University of Glasgow Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training Programme and both the Adult and Child NES funded Masters training programmes for Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology.  Clinicians from Psychological Services contribute to the teaching of Doctoral and Masters Trainees and provide placements to both Doctoral and Masters Trainees across the all stages of training. 

It is essential that you have a Post Graduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology. Personal experience of serving in the military and/or extensive experience of working with the veteran client group is desirable.

The applicant must be HCPC registered.
