Salaried GP Lerwick GP Practice – 17.5 hours per week (0.44WTE) fixed term for 12 months

to cover maternity leave (Ref: 121778)


An opportunity has arisen for a fixed term GP post to cover maternity leave. The Lerwick GP Practice is a 2C salaried General Practice, providing medical services to a population of approximately 9,000 patients and offers the variety and stimulation that can only be found in remote settings.  


  • Uses Ask My GP online consulting
  • Successful training practice
  • Multi-disciplinary team including a Pharmacist and Physiotherapist
  • Excellent premises with well sized consulting rooms
  • Excellent links with secondary care at the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick


The team is friendly, welcoming and very supportive. The GPs in Lerwick participate in the local GP out-of-hours co-operative, which is optional and remunerated in addition to the salary shown. The Practice has a team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners who deal with on the day acute presentations, and we also have Practice Nurses and Healthcare Support Workers.  Our admin team is well trained and help the back office function to run smoothly.  We use EMIS and DOCMAN and successful candidates will have the opportunity to develop specialist interests should this be of interest to them.


  • Salary Range £70,433 – £101,947 per annum (pro rata)
  • Distant Islands Allowance £1,971 per annum (pro rata)
  • Local Retention Premium of 2% of basic salary
  • £4,000 Relocation Allowance (pro rata for less than one year post)
