This is a full-time permanent post.
Shift pattern: Monday – Friday (Shift TBC within core working hours 0900-1700).
The service also covers on rotational basis evening (17:00-19:00) Saturday mornings (08:00-12:00) and Public holidays (08:00-12:00).
This position is available within the Histology area of the department. Duties in Histology will include preparation of specimens, loading and unloading of processors and staining machines, and embedding and microtomy of tissue samples. Other duties will involve reagent preparation, manual staining methods, and filing and retrieval of archive material.
Experience as Healthcare Science support worker (Higher Level) is essential.
The post holder:
- will perform specimen reception duties; including data entry into the Laboratory Information Management System, and will also perform other general laboratory duties including stock control and housekeeping.
- will be required to meet the NHS Scotland Healthcare Support worker induction standards & codes of practice.
- must possess excellent communication skills, excellent organisational skills, and possess good numeracy, literacy and keyboard skills. Further essential skills are; accuracy and attention to detail.
- should also have previous experience of working as part of a team and on own initiative.
- should have knowledge of Health and Safety procedures. Experience and basic knowledge of computers is also essential, as well as a willingness to learn new procedures.
You should be qualified to SCQF level 8 (e.g. HND in Biomedical Science or equivalent) OR have a minimum of SCQF level 7 (e.g. HNC in Applied Science, SVQ level 3 in Laboratory Science or equivalent) with a commitment to study and attain a qualification at SCQF level 8 (e.g. HND in Biomedical Science or equivalent qualification.
