The successful candidate will have extensive clinical experience and expertise in dementia care and will exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy, working with multi disciplinary teams, in particular those in non specialist services to ensure the highest standards of care for people with dementia wherever their care and treatment takes place.
The nurse consultant will provide professional advice to clinical staff and directors in relation to dementia care and treatment and act as an expert resource locally, regionally and nationally. The post holder will develop strong working relationships with Alzheimer Scotland to raise awareness of dementia and the work they do.
The post holder will provide strategic direction and expert consultancy on all aspects of clinical practice and care of people with dementia across the patient pathway in NHS Dumfries and Galloway. The success of the post will be dependent on developing effective relationships and communication across a wide range of care settings.
One of the key aspects of the post will be to lead the work of the Dementia Champions.
Applicants will have a first level registration as a Mental Health Nurse, a Masters degree or equivalent (or working towards) and a qualification in dementia care.
