Ambulatory Emergency Care

Exciting job opportunities are available in the newly developing Ambulatory Care Unit at Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin, Moray. Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the north east of Scotland, 40 miles from Inverness and 70 miles from Aberdeen, Moray forms part of the Grampian region.

We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals who wish to be part of a dedicated Multidisciplinary Team comprising Consultants, Specialty Doctors, Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Allied Health Professionals helping to shape the delivery of Ambulatory Care Pathways.

The newly developing Ambulatory Care Unit will be providing care with an ethos of:

  • Focusing on rapid assessment and discharge pathways
  • Developing pathways to provide best practice patient experience
  • Patient management rather than bed management
  • Facilitating pathways to enable patients to care with the philosophy of ‘right care, right place, right time’
  • Supporting the Emergency Department
  • Linking to and supporting anticipatory care planning, primary and community care pathways
  • Valuing the training and development of the MDT

Applications are invited for two permanent Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) rotational posts in the Ambulatory Care Unit, Acute Medical Assessment Unit and General Medicine at Dr Gray’s Hospital. This is an exciting time for medicine at Dr Grays as we are in the process of establishing our Acute Emergency Care unit for ambulatory patients, aiming to improve the access to specialist review and diagnostics and improve flow across the medical footprint.


The team is extremely friendly and supportive of each other and has great camaraderie. We endeavour to support ongoing learning and development with clinical skills and education to meet our 4 Pillars of Advanced Practice. We encourage active participation in Quality Improvements, Clinical Audits and supporting clinical development of our medical colleagues. We regularly have Nursing, Paramedic, Medical and Physician Associate students working alongside the team and supporting their practice.


The successful candidate will have current First level NMC registration, be a qualified and experienced Independent Prescriber (V300) with Advanced Clinical Examination Skills & History Taking and Pathophysiology modules and will be able to demonstrate objective evidence of ability to perform autonomously at Masters Level (SCQF 11).  To achieve Band 7, applicants must have Post Graduate Diploma at Masters Level in Advanced Clinical Practice or credentialed with evidence of education and clinical experience of working autonomously at Masters Level.


The post holder will be expected to exercise a high level of personal professional autonomy and make clinical judgements in line with advanced practice to satisfy the expectations and clinical demands of the role.  It is essential all applicants have the ability to undertake clinical assessment of the acutely unwell patient and initiate clinical management plans in order improve clinical outcomes for patients.  A dynamic individual with strong clinical assessment and coaching skills are required to facilitate learning of trainees.

While the role is currently for day time hours, there are opportunities to work night shifts to support the extended medical team, therefore successful applicants must be able to work both day and night shift hours.

An attractive relocation allowance of up to £8,000 is available to successful candidates in line with the NHS Grampian Relocation Policy.
