An opportunity has arisen to join our team as a First Steps Worker on a permanent basis. Please note there are three posts available 2 part time (0.8Hrs) and 1 fulltime within both North and South Lanarkshire.
Working as part of the community midwifery teams. The First Steps worker will provide intensive support to targeted vulnerable families (pre and post birth, up to 6 months old). The support will take place primarily within the families’ own home with the main aim of empowering these families to provide the best possible start for their children in their earliest years and beyond. Encouraging and supporting parenting practice that are safe, healthy and nurturing are key to the First Steps worker’s role.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO DO THE JOB
- Professional child care or health care knowledge acquired through SVQ/ HNC level or demonstrable experience of working with vulnerable children and families
- Experience of working in a community, hospital or education setting
- Be able to work independently or within a team liaising with colleagues as required
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential
- IT skills
- Knowledge of relevant national and local policies and processes
- Commitment to ongoing personal development
- Driving licence is essential and access to use of a car
