Emergency Planning Officer
About the Organisation:
Public Health Scotland launched in April 2020 as a new organisation between the Scottish Government and Local Government, working in partnership, to provide lead-ership to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland. It provides authoritative information and services to support people and communities across Scotland, leads the national response to unforeseen health emergencies, and contributes to national and local government policy through its provision of robust da-ta and intelligence.
The post:
The Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate of PHS are seeking to appoint an Emergency Planning Officer to lead and manage the Emergency Planning, Resilience and Response team. This is an exciting time as for the team as it will further develop and deliver across a range of emergency planning activities for PHS, which will also help to protect the population of Scotland. The activities include service planning, training and exercising, preparedness, development and implementation of policies, protocols, procedures and guidelines for emergency planning.
The candidate:
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team in PHS and will play a key role in the deliv-ery of the Public Health Scotland’s Emergency Planning, Resilience and Response service. You must have knowledge of emergency planning concepts and practice within relevant settings and experience in emergency planning work. You should have highly developed communication skills, both verbal and written which allows you to rapidly distil information to internal and external stakeholders.
You will work collaboratively within Public Health Scotland and with partners including NHS Boards, Local Authorities, Scottish Government and the UK Security Health Agency.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
Location and working pattern:
Edinburgh / Glasgow
37.5 hours per week, with on call and the opportunity to work flexibly 5 days over 7 as needed.
Due to our national response to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic there will be an ex-pectation for weekend and/or out of hours working.
Salary placement will start at the bottom point of the scale unless individuals have previous NHS experience.
