Full and Part Time Hours Considered (For part-time, the salary will be pro-rata)

The post will be based at Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh/ Western General Hospital

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Orthopaedic Occupational Therapy Service on a rotational post. Based at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh, Western General Hospital and Orthopaedic Supported Discharge Service (OSD - short term community rehab service) you will experience all stages of the patients’ orthopaedic pathway from acute, rehabilitation and short rehab in the patient’s own home.

In the Orthopaedic wards you will support the patient journey from early intervention, working alongside colleagues to ensure patients are discharged home effectively, and that their rehabilitation takes place in the most appropriate environment.

In the orthopaedic rehab service based at the Western General Hospital there is opportunity to work with those patients who require a longer period of in-patient stay prior to discharge. The focus will be on delivering enhanced therapy input and patient centred rehabilitation.

OSD will allow you to experience working with patients within their own home for a short period of time, whilst still being part of the OT acute service.

The teams are led by a Band 7 who you may require to deputise for in their absence.

You will have strong communication skills, excellent prioritisation and time management skills.  You will be able to demonstrate initiative and leadership and provide support to junior members of the team.

You should have clinical experience working as an Occupational therapist within an acute or rehab specialty and will have the ability to assess and plan interventions in this clinical area, and offer advice and support to patients, their carers and other health care professionals.

Previous experience in orthopaedics preferred but not essential.

You will be required to participate in the weekend working on the existing rotas on RIE and WGH sites.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
