An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dental Health Support Worker within Aberdeen City’s Childsmile Team (ARGYLL HOUSE, Cornhill Road, Aberdeen), to take forward the national, expanding Childsmile programme with families, nursery and school staff and pupils, health visitors, dental staff and many other key partners within the community setting.
Childsmile takes a broad-ranging and integrated approach to tackling barriers to good oral health, and works to empower the community - both groups and individuals - to take positive steps to improve their own oral health. Reducing inequalities in both oral health & access to services is a key aspect of the Programme.
Childsmile is expanding nationally, post COVID-19, into linking within the community setting, engaging with children & families, as well as partners.
Key activities include encouraging and monitoring daily toothbrushing in participating nurseries and schools, ensuring consent is obtained from parents for their children to benefit from the Childsmile programme which includes receiving oral health information and fluoride varnish applications, and working with health visitors & partners to support families to register with and receive Childsmile prevention within dental practices.
We are seeking someone educated to SVQ level 3 or equivalent, with excellent communication skills, as well as having experience of health care, health promotion and oral health and previous experience of working with children.
A full driving licence is essential.
