Job Advert

An exciting opportunity is available to apply for the vacancy of Specialist Practitioner in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy within the South Glasgow Psychotherapy Service (full-time position).  We are a multidisciplinary psychotherapy team and the post-holder will be expected to provide clinical leadership for their professional discipline within the team and support psychodynamic psychotherapy developments in the sector and within GG&C.  Applications are encouraged from candidates who have experience and interest in further professional development, within psychodynamic psychotherapy. Applicants must have a professional qualification in one of the core mental health professions which would be completion of training as a first level registered nurse in mental health with a currently valid registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council or Occupational Therapist registered with the Health Professions Council or Social Worker registered with SSSC and significant post registration experience or equivalent practitioner training and experience in a relevant discipline.  If the post holder does not hold the professional qualification of the core trainings outlined above then they must demonstrate sufficient experience and competence of working in the mental health field in the NHS and have post graduate training in psychodynamic psychotherapy or related trainings with accreditation with a recognised organisation such as UKCP, BACP, BPC or BABCP.  The successful applicant will be one of three Band 7 posts within the South Glasgow Psychotherapy Team. The two current band 7 staff are psychoanalytically trained and provide predominantly individual treatment. In order to balance the mix of skills and expertise within the service, we are seeking applicants with interest and aptitude for provision of group psychotherapy, in addition to the individual therapies provided by all team members. Support for further supervision, training and experience in group psychotherapy will be available to support the post holder in taking up this role.  Clinical leadership to the service is provided by two consultant psychiatrists in psychotherapy. There is also currently one band 6 trainee psychotherapist post. The Psychotherapy Team is highly specialist, providing the psychodynamic input to the South Glasgow Mental Health Services. The Psychotherapy Department is based at Leverndale hospital and is a specialist NHS service which provides outpatient psychodynamic psychotherapy services for the adult population of the South Sector of Glasgow – currently an adult population of 369,000. The patient group is generally complex either by duration, resistance to treatment or symptom constellation. Patients treated in the service most frequently have depressive conditions, personality disorders, posttraumatic/adjustment disorders and those with multiple neurotic and somatic conditions.  The department delivers care in a multidisciplinary context and utilises a broad range of treatment modalities derived from psychoanalysis and group analysis. Careful assessment of patient’s difficulties is the cornerstone of treatment planning; treatments offered can include individual psychodynamic psychotherapy, brief dynamic therapy and group analytic psychotherapy.  The department also has a wider role within the psychiatric service; offering consultation, complex case discussion groups and reflective practice groups as well as support, advice and training where appropriate to staff working in inpatient and community services.  Informal enquiries would be welcomed by contacting Dr Lawrence Martean on 0141 211 6680 or Dr Emma Lewington on 0141 211 6690.
