We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic highly specialist clinical psychologist/neuropsychologist, for 7.5hrs per week, band 8b post within NHS Borders major trauma specialist rehabilitation service. Based at the Borders General Hospital the postholder will be part of the multidisciplinary team working in acute major trauma ward and support transition and implementation of patient care into rehabilitation services. This service provides comprehensive multi-disciplinary intervention for inpatients with specialist rehabilitation needs who have been repatriated from the major trauma centre. The postholder will work with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to deliver a service to individuals who may be experiencing psychological difficulties in relation to neuro and/or poly trauma.
The Clinical/Neuropsychologist will be a key member of the major trauma rehabilitation team and will take a lead in the development of the psychological approach of the team for patients with major trauma. The post holder will provide psychological care for patients from point of acute admission through to rehabilitation then the community. They will play a key role in advising staff on psychological management of patients. They will work with both patients and their families. The psychologist will contribute to developing the major trauma team approach to psychological care.
Owning to the high prevalence of neuro-trauma in the Major Trauma population the post holder must have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and be registered with the HCPC and have considerable knowledge and experience in neuropsychology and trauma including advanced knowledge of neuropsychological assessment tools and their interpretation. Experience of working in a neuropsychology/rehabilitation service, either in qualified experience or as part of the specialist placement in the DClinPsy degree, is essential. Prior experience of inpatient work will be advantageous.
