NINEWELLS HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL SCHOOL
CONSULTANT PAEDIATRIC ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEON – 1 POST – 10 PAs
We are looking to appoint a friendly, enthusiastic, team player with a specialist interest in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery to join our Orthopaedic department. NHS Tayside provides services for the children and young people of Dundee, Angus, Perthshire and North Fife. Ninewells Hospital is a university teaching hospital and major trauma centre, which houses the recently built, paediatric twin-theatre suite. This post represents replacement of one of our Paediatric Orthopaedic surgeons who has recently retired. You will be joining 19 other Orthopaedic consultants within Tayside, 12 of whom provide the out of hours cover for children and adults. In supporting the care of children with complex health needs, we are fortunate to have strong links with an outstanding paediatric physiotherapy service and a specialist paediatric orthopaedic nurse along with the general paediatric and other allied health professional teams.
NHS Tayside and Dundee University Medical School have an excellent international reputation and Tayside also offers a great professional opportunity to those interested in academia or teaching. The department enjoys close links with the University Department of Trauma and Orthopaedics (UDOTS), which hosts a renowned and established MChOrth course along with other postgraduate courses, and there are abundant teaching opportunities within the medical school. We are home to the East of Scotland Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery training program with 16 Specialty Trainees and take great pride in the quality of our postgraduate training which regularly ranks highly within the GMC national training survey. Tayside has an abundance of choice with regard to housing and schooling, with both excellent public and private education options. It is a region of outstanding natural beauty, from the North Sea coast in the east to the highs of the Cairngorm Mountains to the west. Our region is exceptionally well suited to an active and outdoor lifestyle. Working in Tayside can also offer a great work-life balance with quick, easy links by road or rail to St Andrews (11 miles) and the other main cities within Scotland; Edinburgh (55 miles), Aberdeen (65 miles) and Glasgow (80 miles)
We are seeking fellowship trained candidates well versed in the generality of Paediatric Orthopaedics, with a proven interest in the orthopaedic management of children with neurological disorders. In order to ensure, the right candidate, we are flexible regarding other subspecialty interests and can accommodate paediatric trauma depending on the applicant’s circumstances. Applicants must have full GMC registration, a licence to practice and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or eligibility for specialist registration CESR (CP) within 6 months at date of interview. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
