Hours: 37.5 hours per week averaged over 8 week rota

Shift Pattern

  • Week 1 - 8 to 4 Monday to Friday.
  • Week 2 - 7 Nights - Monday to Sunday -9pm to 6am.
  • Week 3 - Monday to Friday off; Saturday and Sunday 6 to 2.
  • Week 4 - 6 to 2 Monday to Friday (effectively 7 days 6 to 2 if you include the weekend prior).
  • Week 5 - 8 to 4 Monday to Friday
  • Week 6 - 7 to 3 Monday to Friday and 2pm to 10pm Saturday and Sunday
  • Week 7 - Monday and Tuesday off. Wednesday to Friday 8 to 4
  • Week 8 - 2pm to 10pm Monday to Friday


Second post:

Hours: 37.5 hours per week averaged over 5 week rota

Shift Pattern     

  • 08.30 – 16.30      Monday - Friday
  • 12.00 – 20.00      every 3rd week
  • 9.00am – 13.00  (one in every five Saturdays)

Mortuary Assistants are required to work across various sites in NHSGG&C with the base site being the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The main duties are dealing with the receipt, removal and transfer of deceased, preparing the deceased for viewing and organising and conducting viewings with relatives and completing all paperwork for release of deceased to Funeral Directors. This position will involve lone working.

  • Candidates should be qualified to higher grade level (3 Highers at Grade C) or above, or be qualified to HNC/SVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification.
  • The successful candidate must also possess good literacy and numeracy skills, good time management and organisational skills, excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills and demonstrable knowledge of confidentiality and Data Protection policies
  • The successful candidate should also have experience of working with the public, preferably in a hospital environment, and should ideally have experience of working with the deceased.
