NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh city, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards. We have strategic partnerships with local Universities, Local Authorities and our four Integration Joint Boards. We serve a population of 900,000, providing a range of primary, community based and acute hospital services. We also provide regional and national services across a range of clinical specialties.

The vision for the Pharmacy & Medicines service is to deliver clinically led, person-centred services to ensure patients across Lothian get the best from their medicines and pharmacy services. We are focussed on creating an environment where each person in the team has the opportunity to flourish, develop and make best use of their skills.

The announcement of enhanced investment by the Scottish Government in mental health pharmacy services has given us the opportunity to develop technical services within NHS Lothian. This is an exciting new opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacy technician to join the existing mental health pharmacy team in West Lothian and develop their skills across a variety of mental health specialities.

The successful candidate will work across both clinical and technical service based at St John’s Hospital, Livingston. The postholder will work closely with the wider pharmacy and multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high quality of patient care. This new role will participate in the ongoing service development in this patient focused role to optimise medicines use, support patient flow and contribute towards ongoing delivery of the mental health clinical pharmacy service.

Candidates must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), have a Pharmacy Dispensary Checking Technician (PDCT) National Qualification or equivalent, HNC in Pharmacy Services Development and Management or equivalent qualification or relevant experience will be considered. If the successful candidates do not hold the HNC or equivalent they will be expected to engage in completing the appropriate post-registration qualification in post.
