SBSTIRL – Scottish bacterial STI reference laboratory 

Job Title: Assistant Practitioner (Band 4) 

37.5 Hours per week

Salary £22,700 - £24,973 

 

This is an opportunity to work in the busy Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in the laboratories in the Scottish STI reference laboratory ( SBSTIRL). The post would suit an enthusiastic, well organised and highly motivated individual. As part of a team, you will be involved in many highly skilled procedures and specialist testing. This will include bacterial culture and methods to determine bacterial ID and antibiotic sensitivity. There are also molecular skills important for this role including  extraction and PCR.  In addition, you will be expected to participate in several off bench duties. 

Laboratory experience is essential. You should have excellent IT skills and have a relevant Foundation degree, an HND in Biological Science, or NVQ4. 

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.  ​​​​​​​

Working hours are 37.5 per week, which includes flexible working.
