Have you ever considered a career as a pharmacist in forensic mental health?
The State Hospital (TSH) is one of only four high secure hospitals in the UK with 140 beds and the principle aim of rehabilitating patients, ensuring safe transfer to appropriate lower levels of security. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated pharmacist to join our small, dedicated clinical team.
The service is currently introducing a new model of pharmaceutical care and you will help develop and implement the new vision for this service. You will help shape the quality improvement work that is produced as a result of the implementation of HEPMA and you will also be a key member of the multidisciplinary team, providing frontline clinical care to patients.
Your role as a clinical pharmacist will be interesting and varied. Patients often have co-morbid mental illness and chronic physical health conditions, with lots of opportunity to provide excellent pharmaceutical care and improve patients’ quality of life. Pharmacists at TSH have established working relationships with all other members of the multidisciplinary team, who have a real appreciation of the key role we play in ensuring safe and appropriate use of medicines.
TSH is located in a beautiful, scenic part of South Lanarkshire in central Scotland with excellent facilities for staff and ample free parking. NHS Lothian provide the pharmacy services under Service Level Agreement. This comprises the onsite clinical pharmacy team with medicine supply co-ordinated via St John’s Hospital, Livingston and support from the Royal Edinburgh and Associated pharmacy services.
Candidates must have a Master of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and should have a relevant postgraduate qualification. You will have relevant experience of pharmacy practice and excellent communication, interpersonal and IT skills. Candidates will ideally have experience of working within a medicines governance structure and demonstrate service evaluation skills.
There is no weekend or on call commitment for this post. Applications for part-time work will be considered, as will job share opportunities. Salary and allowances will be pro rata for part-time.
