This is an ideal opportunity for pharmacist independent prescribers to gain experience of working in multi-disciplinary community alcohol and drug teams and to improve their clinical skills in the management of drug and alcohol problems. We are offering a permanent full time opportunity within West Dunbartonshire Alcohol & Drug Recovery Service, with an induction and clinical support from senior clinicians.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Alcohol and Drug Recovery Services manage a system of care for individuals with problem drug and alcohol use in the largest health board in Scotland. The health board includes some of the most deprived areas in the UK, with the highest prevalence of problem drug use and alcohol related harms. The provision of accessible, high quality and recovery orientated services are an important component of addressing public health needs and tackling health inequalities.

Treatment, care and support for problem substance use is delivered through integrated working between health and social services. As well as being one of the largest and most dynamic drug and alcohol treatment service providers in Europe, our services are also at the forefront of service developments in many areas including the innovative Enhanced Drug Treatment Service, community based Hepatitis C and HIV care pathways and community based recovery supports.

Pharmacist Independent Prescribers deliver a wide range of interventions to individuals with problem drug and alcohol use, with the aim of improving health and social outcomes. These include review of health needs, harm reduction interventions, substitute prescribing and providing testing and treatment for Hepatitis C and HIV. Pharmacist Independent Prescribers are based in integrated community teams, carry a caseload and work closely with specialist service medical staff.
