NHS Fife Area Psychology Service is delighted to invite applicants to join our Clinical Health Psychology Team. We welcome applications on a full-time or part-time permanent basis from qualified CAAP’s (Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology) and from current trainee CAAP’s due to complete training in January 2023.

The NHS Fife Clinical Health Psychology Service is undergoing significant expansion and we are looking for an additional Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology (CAAP) to join our team. We have 1.0wte permanent sessions available to work in both our General Medical and Pain Management Psychology Services. You will provide specialist Cognitive Behavioural therapy based psychological assessment and treatments for patients presenting with mild to moderate psychological difficulties on a one-to one and group basis.  You will also contribute to the evaluation of the service, and to the development of evidence based practice. You should have expertise in delivering effective Cognitive Behavioural Therapy interventions for a range of mental health problems. It would be an advantage to have some training/experience in psychological aspects of physical health problems and chronic disease management.

You will join the wider dynamic, well-established, supportive Clinical Health Psychology team, which includes Clinical & Health Psychologists, CAAPs (Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology) and Assistant Psychologists.  The wider Clinical Health Psychology Service consists of posts which are embedded within multidisciplinary medical teams across the additional areas of Rheumatology, Blood Borne Virus, Oncology, Intensive Care, Psychosexual, Respiratory, Post Covid-19 Hospitalisation. There is also the General Medical Psychology Service, which takes referrals for a wide range of other medical conditions. Clinical work is conducted via a mix of video conference, telephone and face to face clinics. The team provides patient clinics across Fife and the two main hospitals located in Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy.  The full range of clinical presentations/complexity is represented and there are opportunities for group work, teaching and training and partnership work with other agencies.

The Clinical health Psychology Service is part of the Fife Area Psychology Service, so there will also be opportunities for cross specialty research, professional development and contributing to that of others. You will have access to Area Psychology Service CPD, as well as other CPD opportunities required for your post. There are also Area Psychology Service specialist supervision groups available in such therapeutic modalities as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, EMDR and many more.  The post(s) will be based in one of the two Area Psychology Service bases located at Lynebank Hospital, Dunfermline and Stratheden Hospital, Cupar, so successful applicants will have easy access to clinical staff from all the other major specialties.

The Fife Area Psychology Service is a large service with over 180 staff, comprising the full range of clinical and health specialties, with extensive involvement in training, research and service development.  Close links with the Edinburgh, Stirling, Dundee and St. Andrews Universities’ D. Clin.Psych and MSc courses continue and your professional development, CPD and research initiatives will be well supported.
We are in easy reach of Edinburgh, so many staff in the Clinical Health Psychology team live in the capital, and have chosen to come and work in Fife because of its reputation as a supportive and nurturing place to work.
