INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION IN HEALTHCARE AND MEDICAL SCIENCES

SENIOR CLINICAL LECTURER IN PHYSICIAN ASSOCIATE & MEDICAL EDUCATION

REF: MED158A

The University of Aberdeen has a global reputation for academic excellence in the delivery of healthcare and medical sciences education and in medical education research and development. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinical educator with excellent experience in the delivery of education to physician associate (PA) and medical students to join the thriving and successful team of healthcare educators in the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition (SMMSM) at the University of Aberdeen.

The successful candidate will be an inspirational clinical educator. They will have a major role as the Lead for the highly rated University of Aberdeen MSc in PA Studies and in addition will support the wider delivery of clinical education for the MBChB and other programmes in SMMSN.

Our highly-regarded two-year MSc in PA studies is one of the longest running PA programmes in the UK and remains the only programme based in Scotland. The programme has been successfully graduating Physician Associates for more than 12 years and is currently delivered to around 25 students per cohort. This is an exciting time for the Physician Associate profession as it moves towards regulation in the UK and in Scotland, along with other medical associate professionals there is a major review of the development of the profession.

The MBChB programme is consistently ranked in the top ten of UK league tables and following recent expansion in medical student numbers in Scotland is delivered to > 250 students per cohort.

Our healthcare programmes are based in the Suttie Centre for Teaching & Learning in Healthcare (https://www.abdn.ac.uk/iehms/suttie-centre/index.php) and in the Dental School on the Forsterhill Healthcare Campus. In the later clinical years we operate a dispersed campus. Like our medical students, the physician associate students currently undertake clinical placements across Grampian, in the Highlands, Lothian and in other healthboards across Scotland.

The postholder will be based at Foresterhill in Aberdeen, the second largest single site medical complex in Europe, adjacent to the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Emergency Care Centre, Maternity and Children’s hospitals and containing a wealth of academic and other clinical buildings.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Senior Lecturer salary scale for clinical academics below the level of consultant, £60,983 - £86,266 per annum, and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.

Informal enquiries should be made to Professor Rona Patey, Director of IEHMS (r.patey@abdn.ac.uk) or Professor Siladitya Bhattacharya, Head of School (01224 437965 / s.bhattacharya@abdn.ac.uk).

For research and academic posts, we will consider eligibility under the Global Talent visa. Please do not hesitate to contact Grant Rae, HR Adviser (e-mail: grant.rae@abdn.ac.uk) for further information.
