Job Advert
NHS Lanarkshire – University Hospital Wishaw
Consultant in COTE with an Interest in Orthogeriatrics and Frailty
This post offers the opportunity for a committed and ambitious clinician to join the 24 Consultants working within Older Peoples Services, across NHS Lanarkshire. This post is based in the Department of Medicine for the Elderly, University Hospital Wishaw, where there are currently 7 Consultant staff.
The care of the elderly department at University Hospital Wishaw consists of 6 consultants and 1 stroke consultant plus two specialty doctors covering stroke and orthogeriatrics respectively. There are acute care of the elderly nurses who we work closely with as well as secretarial and admin support. The department is undergoing a period of change as it looks to develop a frailty assessment unit and embrace the changes brought by centralization of the trauma service at University Hospital Wishaw. It is a good opportunity for a motivated candidate to be involved in the development of new services to improve and enhance care of frail older adults in Lanarkshire.
There is a well-established day hospital within the service that includes rapid frailty access clinics including falls clinics. It has expanded to include blood transfusions as outpatients and manage bone health in addition to one-stop multi-disciplinary assessment. Two of the consultants run the Movement disorder service with PD nurse specialist support.
There are acute rehabilitation beds as part of the onsite GORU and beds in an offsite facility for slow-stream rehab, interim care and HBCCC.
The department also has access to rehab and interim beds in the local community hospitals and is looking to strengthening partnership working.
Like the other two NHSL acute sites this department is involved in delivering hospital at home care.
The job is offered as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis (including up to 2 non-DCC) but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time.
Informal enquiries regarding this post will be welcomed by Dr. Ben Adler, Deputy Clinical Director for Medicine on 01698 366097, Dr Alison Falconer, Clinical Lead for Medicine for the Elderly, Wishaw Hospital on 01698366097
