This is exciting opportunity to be a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, adopting a pro-active, therapeutic person-centred approach to care delivery. You will work alongside other Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Social Workers, volunteers and other members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver care to a patient group who experience a range of complex problems, which may affect their mental wellbeing, safety and day-to-day functioning.
You will be expected to contribute to the assessments and delivery of care in a person-centered manner following guided evidence-based practice. You will be expected to work autonomously and flexibly at times following direction and as part of a team.
As a forensic healthcare practitioner, you must be able to work under pressure and demonstrate the ability to remain calm in challenging situations. Team working is essential balanced with the ability to work autonomously and manage your own workload.
You should have excellent communication skills and show an ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team relaying clinical decisions and exercising clinical judgement.
Whilst previous experience of forensic healthcare would be helpful, this is not essential
Posts will be available across Admissions, Treatment and recovery, Transitions and Learning Disability wards in line with our new and exciting clinical model.
Mental Health & Learning Disability Services are committed to individual development through the provision of mandatory induction and training, including opportunities for professional and personal development, reviewed through the TURAS system.
Employment contracts:
Applicants must be either a Registered Mental Health or Learning Disabilities Nurse. Various hours will be considered. Contracts are permanent.
Working patterns:
An attractive work-life balance is supported by the successful candidate's shift pattern, which centres around a 4 days on and 2 days off shift pattern, with shifts being generated up to 12 weeks in advance. Throughout the course of a year applicants will also be rostered to work Night Duty (2100–0742), and work on average a 75-hour fortnight.
Location: The State Hospital
Situated midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh, the hospital is the only High Secure Forensic Mental Healthcare and Learning Disability facility in Scotland that has the dual responsibility of caring for a group of unwell, detained, patients whilst safeguarding them and the public from harm.
