About the Organisation:
Public Health Scotland launched in April 2020 as a new organisation between the Scottish Government and Local Government, working in partnership, to provide leadership to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland. It provides authoritative information and services to support people and communities across Scotland, leads the national response to unforeseen health emergencies, and contributes to national and local government policy through its provision of robust data and intelligence.

The Post and Candidate:
The Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate of PHS are seeking to appoint a public health intelligence advisor within the Health and Justice Programme of work.  The post-holder will work within and across teams as part of the Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate, working with a range of policy makers and justice stakeholders in Scotland and beyond.

Your work will be focussed on supporting the development of public health programmes and approaches to (1) understand and address the underlying causes or crime, reoffending and revictimisation, and (2) reduce the negative impacts and strengthen the positive impacts that the justice system can have on the health and wellbeing of those in contact with it.   The successful applicant will apply public health approaches to their work - see our justice programme strategy for more details (Public Health Scotland’s Health and Justice Programme strategy).

We are looking for a public health intelligence advisor with strong epidemiological skills to work with partners to identify key issues, gather evidence on what works, develop and evaluating programmes, and embed public health principles and programme findings into practice.  You will need strong communication and epidemiological skills, and preferably a Master’s in Public Health and experience of working with non-health sectors.

The post holder will report to the principal public health intelligence advisor for the programme, and will work closely with the consultant in public health lead.

Location and Working Pattern:
Edinburgh / Glasgow

Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours. During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business need, you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.

Benefits:
Our benefits package includes pension scheme, comprehensive range of work life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres and discounted leisure, financial and shopping benefits
