The geographical area covered is diverse from the major city of Glasgow, large and small towns, villages and some rural districts and encompasses six local authority areas from East Dunbartonshire to Inverclyde.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Acute Services are delivered currently from three Sectors covering North Glasgow, South Glasgow and Clyde and three Directorates with cross site responsibilities covering Women and Children’s Services, Regional Services and Diagnostics.
The Acute service provides a complex range of Hospital services across the population of Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
We now have an exciting opportunity to appoint a new Lead Nurse who will have a key role providing clinical, professional and managerial leadership to nursing and midwifery staff within the Surgical Service locate in the South Sector’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
The successfully appointed candidate will be responsible for ensuring the objectives and quality standards of the following strands of NHS Scotland’s National Quality Strategy and National Nursing and Midwifery Quality Assurance Framework are achieved and any future national initiatives:
•Care Assurance and Accreditation System (CAAS)
•HEI prevention and control measures
•Scottish Patient Safety Programme (SPSP)
•Older People in Acute Hospital standards (OPAH)
•Person Centred Care
The post holder will have a pivotal role in providing a visible authoritative leadership presence to support the clinical teams in their implementation of all clinical standards (CAAS and ultimately CAAS accreditation to ensure that all AHP and non-clinical services provide support that is responsive and appropriate to patient needs and nursing teams achieve CAAS accreditation).
In partnership with the Chief Nurse/Midwife, General Manager, Clinical Service Manager, Finance, Human Resources and Medical colleagues, you will deliver Sector/ Directorate department plans which drive financial efficiency and quality initiatives across the Sector/Directorate simultaneously ensuring person centred care is at the forefront of all decision making.
As a subject matter expert on statutory and regulatory nursing and midwifery requirements you will provide assurance to the NHS Board of their delivery and will be active in the development of effective policies and strategies that ensure the best professional standards which underpin excellent outcome for patients are deployed in all services.
You will have the opportunity to actively participate in Nursing Midwifery Workforce planning and the inter-relationships between undergraduate education and postgraduate training to deliver a workforce that meet the needs of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
As the new Lead Nurse you will be expected to demonstrate excellence in communication and assessment skills and be able to use you initiative and keep calm in a busy and unpredictable environment.
A registered nurse educated to degree level with a leadership/management qualification you will have signifcant demonstable experience gained in a senior nurse leadership / management role within a large, complex NHS/ health care organisation.
You will have the ability to inspire confidence and respect to lead and deliver in a demanding environment. Key to the success of this role will be the ability to contribute to the development of a strong, patient-focused culture which encourages initiative, individual and team responsibility and open communication.
