OUR VALUES IN ACTION

Care and Compassion Quality and Teamwork Dignity and Respect Openness, honesty and responsibility

NHS Borders Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) are delighted to invite applications for two Assistant Psychologists.

We wish to recruit Assistant Psychologists to join our team as their predecessors are moving on to further training.  We are looking for people with enthusiasm to start their career in Applied or Clinical Psychology in our small and friendly multidisciplinary team.  We are looking for people with initiative, energy, excellent communication and engagement skills for patient facing activity. We are also looking for creativity and robust organisational skills to help us with the day to day endeavours of CAMHS and to work with us on service audits and development projects.

Applicants must have a degree in Psychology (2:1 or above) and be eligible for graduate basis for registration with the BPS. You will need to be eligible to work in the UK immediately and to be able to obtain a PVG for this age group.  You will need to have experience of working with children, young people or families whether this was voluntary or paid.

You will be line managed within CAMHS Psychology and will have training, supervision and access to NHS professional learning resources.  In this role you will be fully integrated within the multidisciplinary CAMHS team and thus have extensive opportunities to observe, discuss and undertake a wide range of clinically relevant tasks.

The roles support us in our service improvement plans (co-creation of documents, web-content, data & audit work, literature and web-searches)and contribute to direct clinical care by co-running groups, individual work or assessments under supervision and alongside qualified colleagues.

We are a small multidisciplinary service with a positive culture and a broad remit working up to 18 years of age.  We provide; support for community partners, a neurodevelopmental pathway (including learning disabilities), Tier 3 multidisciplinary and psychological interventions, and intensive community treatment.  Our team includes Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology (CAAPs), Psychiatrists, CPNs, Specialist nurses, AHPs, a Music Therapist, Administrative staff, and a Therapet.  We have trainee CAAPs and Clinical Psychologists on placement regularly.  There is an Assistant Psychologists’ group which links across Psychology specialities.  These posts should provide an excellent place in which to ground a career in applied psychology in the NHS.

These posts are based at the Andrew Lang Unit, Selkirk and we use numerous locality bases.  The Borders is a beautiful rural catchment with small towns offering excellent quality of life. Our Assistant Psychology job-plans currently support some working from home, but are mostly in person at our base or at locality venues, and so a driving licence and use of a car is much preferred.

PLEASE NOTE:  we anticipate a high level of interest in this position and may close the advert once a sufficient amount of applications are received,  therefore please make sure you submit your application at an early stage.

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
