The Highland Children’s Unit (HCU) at Raigmore Hospital is looking for an individual who is HNC qualified in Childcare & Education, NNEB or equivalent  to successfully undertake the 2 year Foundation Degree in Healthcare Play Specialism at Leeds University whilst undertaking a 200 hour placement on the HCU in order to become a Play Specialist.  As a trainee,  you will be paid 70% of the maximum of the Band 4 pay scale in the first year, 75% in the second, in line with NHS pay policy. 

On successful completion of the Degree and registration with the Healthcare Play Specialist Education Trust (HPSET) a permanent, part time (23hrs) staff post will be secured.  HPSET requires 5 x GCSE Grade (C) minimum to include Maths and English.  

As the only facility for children in the Highlands, the Unit provides paediatric care across all specialities, to children and young people and their families requiring:  Inpatient, Day Case surgery, procedures and investigations, HDU, Assessment area and 2 x OPDs. 

Working in close partnership with members of the MDT, you will work as part of a large team under the supervision of your mentor to support the delivery of care to children and young people and their families within the Highland Children's Unit.
