We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our new enthusiastic team as a trainee surgical nurse practitioner or a trained surgical nurse practitioner within surgical assessment.
The role of the Surgical Nurse Practitioner (SNP) is that of an experienced clinical nurse, responsible for providing direct clinical assessment and care to the patients presenting with surgical conditions. The post-holder will independently utilise a broad range of advanced knowledge, skills and theory in the initial physical assessment, provisional diagnosis, and treatment of surgical patients. A fundamental part of the
SNP role is early detection and intervention of clinical deterioration in existing patients within the assessment units and ward areas, escalating this to surgical medical staff timeously for ongoing management of the patient’s condition. The SNP will assess patients, order, and analyse test results, prescribe treatment and monitor
the effectiveness of the treatment prescribed in liaison with medical staff. The SNP will regularly review the patient’s condition, clinical notes and the required re- evaluation of patient need, ensuring each patient has a comprehensive ongoing management plan, this being imperative from an observational, pre and post-operative perspective.
It is essential that the SNP must competently perform the necessary technical, invasive, physical assessments and plan of care for this defined patient group. You should possess excellent communication skills and decision-making skills with evidence of ongoing professional development. It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC and that you have evidence of continuing professional development.
The shift pattern for this post is 12-hour shifts Monday to Friday weekend working. Surgical experience is desirable but not essential. As training programme will be available for all successful candidates.
