Post:  clinical TEACHING fellow in trauma & orthopaedics

Base: Royal ALEXANDRA hospital

We are offering this post for a Clinical Teaching Fellow to join our Trauma and Orthopaedic team. This post would be ideal for someone enthusiastic about medical education who has completed foundation training or equivalent and gain more experience before applying for specialty training. The teaching fellow will develop and deliver teaching to medical students supported by the consultant medical education leads in the department. The successful applicant will balance their, predominantly ward based, clinical practice with 2 sessions of protected time for teaching activities/professional development.

The Orthopaedic Unit in Clyde is based between the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and Inverclyde Royal Hospital. The trauma unit is in the Royal Alexandra Hospital and takes acute inpatient and day case trauma. Inpatient elective services are provided at Inverclyde Royal Hospital and trauma and elective outpatients are seen at both hospitals.

The appointee will be assigned a Clinical/Educational Supervisor and a personal development plan (PDP) based on previous experience and needs will be established. Regular meetings with the supervisor will take place throughout the post to support the appointee in meeting your PDP goals.

Funding towards the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education will be made available. Where a candidate chooses not to enrol in the PG Cert course, up to £1200 will be made available to support a similar course or other personal development activities which must be agreed with the Clinical Supervisor and Medical Education Leads for the department.

The successful applicant will contribute to the junior out-of-hours rota in the department and attract the out-of-hours pay supplement. The rota at the Royal Alexandra Hospital is resident on-call, currently shared between 10 junior doctors and incorporates internal cover for annual and study leave. The post will also involve rotation, for a set number of weeks, to Inverclyde Royal Infirmary Orthopaedic Unit.

This post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training by NES. This post requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland Check.

To practise medicine in the UK you need to hold both GMC full registration and a Licence to Practise and must have completed foundation or equivalent training.
