We are seeking to recruit an OT keen to work within this rapidly developing clinical area and for the right person this would provide an excellent career opportunity.  A secondment for anyone keen to consider applying relevant experience and knowledge would be welcomed and new skills could be directly reinvested for future career or service development in many aspects of OT.

The clinical skills needed for success could have been gained in a wide variety of settings and there is the scope to use a wide breadth of core OT skills for assessment, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation to maintain people living at home, offering advice and guidance to support and empower natural support networks.  An understanding of the presentation of mental health conditions and co-morbidity in older people is important.  The challenge of autonomous working is supported by immediate line management from a Specialist OT and the professional supervision structure within Mental Health Occupational Therapy/Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership.

The future of OPMH and contribution of OT within the specialism is supported by key Scottish Government strategies.  The current focus of service development is exciting allowing us to develop collaborations, networks and influence across the Older People’s pathway and we are engaged in the delivery of national improvement programmes eg Home Biased Memory Rehabilitation, local developments eg  Early intervention and Improving access to Everyday Technology to support Carers and improve quality of life while also supporting people to remain in their own home.

The successful candidate for post has the potential to make a real difference to clients, colleagues and influence the contribution of OT within OPMH and EHSCP.  If you are thinking that this might be part of your career we would be appreciate hearing from you to explore the possibility and the post will be advertised on https://jobs.scot.nhs.uk/lothjobs/
